Kansas Secretary of State Candidate Jennifer Day Releases New Ad: “Your Voice”
“This ballot is more than just a piece of paper. It’s the beginning of better schools and healthcare, the first step to lowering costs and pushing back on corruption.” — Jennifer Day
This week, Jennifer Day, Democratic candidate for Kansas Secretary of State, released a new campaign ad titled “Your Voice,” highlighting her commitment to ensuring safe and secure elections. The new ad compliments her campaign ad released last week, “This Ballot,” which centers on protecting voting access and connecting the ballot box to the issues that matter to Kansans, including better schools, accessible healthcare, and lower costs. Both are part of a nearly half a million dollar statewide ad buy to introduce Day to voters ahead of the November 3 election.
In the “This Ballot” ad, Day draws on her experience as a small business owner, former legislator, and election worker to explain why she is running for Secretary of State. She criticizes her opponent, Pat Proctor, for pushing to eliminate in-person early voting and vote by mail, arguing that his position would restrict Kansans’ ability to participate in elections.
“This ballot is more than just a piece of paper,” Day says in "This Ballot. “It's the beginning of better schools and healthcare. The first step to lowering costs and pushing back on corruption.”
The ad releases come as recent polling shows a close race for Kansas Secretary of State, with Jennifer Day and Pat Proctor just two points apart. The polling shows Day taking a sizable lead once voters hear her message, highlighting the importance of introducing Kansans to her vision for protecting voting access and restoring Kansas values to the Secretary of State’s office.

Jennifer Day: “This ballot is more than just a piece of paper. It's the beginning of better schools and healthcare. The first step to lowering costs and pushing back on corruption.
In the legislature, Pat Proctor pushed to eliminate early voting altogether in person and by mail. He wants to take away your vote.
I'm Jennifer Day, a small business owner, former legislator, and a proud Johnson County election worker. I'm running to be your next Secretary of State because our Kansas values run through the ballot.”

Jennifer Day: “Your vote is your voice and every eligible Kansan deserves to be heard.
Pat Proctor wants to eliminate early voting altogether in person and by mail. I take a different approach. For 8 years, I've served as an election worker, protecting every eligible citizen's right to vote.
I will uphold the law, including ensuring only American citizens are allowed to register and cast a ballot. I'm Jennifer Day, and I approve this message. Canons deserve elections they can trust.”

ICYMI: Kansas Republican Secretary of State Candidate Admits to Federal Wage Violations and Owing More Than $93,000 in Back Wages to Employees
OVERLAND PARK, KS – In an interview earlier this week, Kansas GOP Secretary of State candidate Pat Proctor admitted to owing over $93,000 in back pay to the employees of his restaurant business. Reports say that Proctor’s business was responsible for dozens of federal wage violations, costing employees back wages including unpaid minimum wage and overtime.
“If Pat Proctor can't pay his own employees, how can we trust him to run our elections? The fact that Proctor withheld tens of thousands of dollars from dozens of his employees – depriving workers of fair wages – shows he has no regard for the people of Kansas and that he thinks the rules don’t apply to him,” said Jennifer Day, Democratic candidate for Kansas Secretary of State.
“Pat Proctor is running for Secretary of State, an office that oversees business filings and provides other services to Kansas businesses. As a small business owner myself, I know how important it is that these offices be run with integrity. My opponent has proven that he won’t put Kansans before his own interests, and it’s a record Kansas voters deserve to know about.”
“I’m running to bring transparency, accountability and fairness to the Secretary of State’s office. The Secretary of State should be a standard bearer for Kansas, and that starts with being accountable for your own record.”

Jennifer Day Statement On Threats To State Control Of Elections
“The fact that our administration in Washington was presented with a pathway to use a national security emergency to take control of American elections, and did not rule out that possibility, should be a wake-up call for every American.
Our elections belong to the people. Under our Constitution, states have a fundamental role in administering elections, and that authority should not be swept aside through executive action from Washington.
Kansas should decide how Kansas elections are administered.
This is not about Democrats or Republicans. It is about whether we believe voters should choose their leaders, whether states should be able to administer their own elections, and whether our constitutional system of checks and balances still means something.
We cannot take our democracy for granted. Once we allow politicians to claim extraordinary power over elections, we risk creating a precedent that could be abused by any administration, of either party, in the future.
That is why this moment demands urgency. Kansas leaders must be prepared to defend the state’s constitutional authority, protect the integrity of our elections, and make clear that no politician is above the rules that govern our democracy.
The right to vote is not a partisan issue. Protecting free and fair elections is not a partisan issue. It is an American issue.”

Jennifer Day Wins Democratic Nomination for Kansas Secretary of State
Overland Park, KS – Jennifer Day has officially secured the Democratic nomination for Kansas Secretary of State and will advance to the November general election.
“I am honored and grateful for the trust Kansans have placed in me,” said Day. “This campaign has been built on listening to people across our state, hearing their concerns, and working toward an elections system that is accessible, secure, and trusted by every Kansan.”
Throughout the primary election, Day traveled across Kansas speaking with voters, county election officials, and community leaders about the future of democracy in the state.
“As Secretary of State, my responsibility will be to serve every Kansan, regardless of party affiliation or political beliefs,” said Day. “Our elections belong to the people, not to any political party. Kansans deserve a Secretary of State who will protect the integrity of our elections, support the professionals who administer them, and make decisions based on what is best for voters across our state.”
“The choice in November is clear: Kansans deserve a Secretary of State who will focus on serving voters, supporting the professionals who run our elections, and will make sure every eligible voter has the opportunity to make their voice heard,” Day said.

Jennifer Day Candidate for Kansas Secretary of State Statement on Wyandotte County Mail In Ballots Issue
“Every Kansan who takes the time to vote deserves confidence that their ballot will make it where it needs to go.
Reports that completed mail ballots are being returned to voters in Wyandotte County because of confusion over election mailing addresses are deeply concerning, especially with the primary just days away. Voters should not have to navigate confusion or uncertainty after they have already done their part to participate in our democracy.
The Secretary of State’s office needs to work with Wyandotte County to make sure affected voters know exactly what they should do next, that county election officials have the support they need, and that no eligible voter is left without a clear path to have their vote counted.
If you have your completed mail ballot, I would encourage you to take it directly to your county’s official ballot drop box rather than relying on the mail with the election so close. If your ballot was returned to you or you are unsure about its status, contact your county election office immediately and make a plan to vote.”

Jennifer Day Applauds Court Decision Protecting Kansas Voters While Legal Challenge Continues
Overland Park, Kan. - Today, Democratic candidate for Kansas Secretary of State Jennifer Day issued the following statement regarding a Douglas County District Court judge's decision to temporarily block enforcement of a law eliminating Kansas' three day ballot receipt grace period for mail ballots while the case moves forward.
"Today's ruling is an important victory for Kansas voters. Every eligible vote, cast according to the law, deserves to be counted.
“The court recognized what election officials and voters have known for years: the three day grace period exists to protect voters from postal delays that are completely outside their control. As the judge noted, the grace period 'did what it was designed to do,' preventing thousands of legally cast ballots from being rejected simply because they arrived after Election Day through no fault of the voter.
“It's also worth remembering that the three-day grace period was created with bipartisan support because lawmakers understood that voters should not lose their voice due to circumstances beyond their control.
“Kansans deserve elections that are both secure and fair. Those values go hand in hand. This ruling preserves a commonsense safeguard that has helped ensure voters who follow the law are not disenfranchised while this case is decided.”

Jennifer Day Statement on the Removal of Bipartisan Election Assistance Commission Members
Overland Park, Kansas. – Jennifer Day, Democratic candidate for Kansas Secretary of State, released the following statement regarding the removal of members of the bipartisan U.S. Election Assistance Commission:
“Weakening the bipartisan Election Assistance Commission doesn’t strengthen elections, it creates unnecessary uncertainty for the election officials and voters who rely on it.
The Election Assistance Commission exists to help states administer secure, accurate, and accessible elections. Our county clerks and election officials deserve the resources and support they need to continue the important work they do every day.
As Secretary of State, my priority will always be serving Kansans, not politics. At a time when public confidence is more important than ever, we should be strengthening the institutions that support our election officials, not creating uncertainty around them."

Jennifer Day Urges Kansas Legislature to Reconsider Mail Ballot Grace Period After Supreme Court Ruling
Overland Park, Kan. - Following today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing states to continue using mail ballot grace periods when authorized under state law, Rep. Jennifer Day, Democratic candidate for Kansas Secretary of State, welcomed the ruling and called on Kansas lawmakers to reconsider eliminating the state’s three-day grace period for mail ballots.
Last year, the Kansas legislature eliminated the state’s three-day grace period.
“For Kansans who mail their ballot back on or by Election Day, they shouldn't have their right to vote revoked because it takes a few days for their ballot to make its way to their Board of Election. It's just common sense. I'm glad the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of common sense -- and I hope the Kansas Legislature follows." says Jennifer Day.
As Secretary of State, Jennifer will fight for every vote because what Kansans care about goes through the ballot. Her focus will always be on ensuring every eligible Kansan can participate in elections that are secure, accurate, and worthy of the public's trust. Election administration should be guided by the law, facts, and the goal of serving voters, not by partisan politics.
